Theme: decision

The talks will be organized around a common topic: decision. Indeed, a growing number of interdisciplinary researches deepen our understanging of decision-making processes, creating thus emerging fields where the various levels of description (neuronal, cognitive, formal, behavioral, evolutionary) intersect:

approaches known as "neuroeconomics" (Glimcher, Shizgal) or "picoeconomics" (Ainslie) use economic models to analyse neuronal, cognitive and behavioral mechanisms of decision;
computational architectures integrate neuroscientific data in decision modeling (Schultz, Leven);
neurosciences investigate neuronal substrates of decision (Montague, Sanfey);
emotions neuropsychology (Damasio, Ledoux) shows the crucial role of emotions in decision;
game theory and microeconomy take a cognitive (Bourgine, Nadal, Walliser) and experimental (Roth)turn ;
behavioral ecology and cognitive ethology model animal behavior with optimality theory (Krebs, Davis, Kacelnik);
cognitive psychology, following Kahneman and Tversky, found many judgment errors in practical reasoning, whereas evolutionary psychologists (Tooby & Cosmides, Gigerenzer) underline the adaptive origin of these so-called errors
management sciences are interested in limited rationality of agents in real decision situation (LeBoeuf, Payne);
naturalistic philosophy see in this work an opportunity of reconsidering the nature of practical rationality and its normativity (Stich, da Sousa, Bermudez).

Participants of cognitive disciplines or intersted in cognitive decision-making (psychology, computer science, neuroscience, philosophy, economy, management, ethology, linguistics) are invited to present current (empirical and theoretical) research: cognitive mechanisms of decisions, neuronal substrates, phylogeny, functions, modelings, impact on normative theories and so one. It will be also possible to present conferences on subjects which are not directly connected to the principal topic.
